Autumn Moon over Aksarben Cosby, William J., Jr.
Robert L. Morgan a Chicago Architect, was about to retire and move back home to Tennessee. His wife had died four years earlier and he had planned to return to his old home town. A lawyer informed him that he has just inherited a ranch in western Nebraska. He moves west instead of south. On his arrival in Nebraska he finds a large ranch with a small house and a large barn. He is befriended by the next door ranch owners and settles in to ranch life. The foreman of the neighbor’s ranch had been a friend to Morgan’s deceased Uncle and took Morgan under his wing to ‘westernize’ him. Part of his inheritance was a small plane, which was damaged. A friendship grew between Morgan and JB Wallace (the foreman) and they set about restoring his plane. The wealthy owner of the neighboring ranch commissioned Morgan to re-design his already palatial home and traded a damaged plane, similar to Morgan’s, as part of his commission. The neighbor’s stepdaughter, a veterinarian on a dude ranch in Colorado, comes to visit her parents. Morgan meets her and after a whirl-wind romance, falls in love with her. Morgan does not tell her of his feelings and decides to fly up and visit old friends in far- away Anchorage, Alaska. While following the Alaskan Highway is hit by an unexpected wintry storm and is forced to crash land in the wilderness of the Yukon Territory. He builds a survival camp and he and his dog survive in the extreme cold. His skills are tested and he has a deadly encounter with a grizzly bear. He is ultimately rescued by JB and returns home to Nebraska a reluctant hero.
