A new three-part course providing an introduction to the language, literature, and culture of the Romans, The Oxford Latin Course combines the best features of both modern and traditional methods of teaching Latin. The first two parts center on a narrative of the life of Horace, following historical sources and building up a picture of the times of Cicero and Augustus. The third part consists of extracts from Caesar, Cicero, Catullus, Virgil, Livy, and Ovid.

The course focuses on reading skills, introducing new grammar and syntax in context before explaining it; it also provides a clear framework of grammar and practice in grammatical analysis. The course is illustrated throughout with a wealth of cartoons and photographs–with Latin captions.

The Teacher’s Book covers all three Parts of the course; it contains ideas on presenting the material, plus commentaries on each chapter.
