Accomplished author Fern Miller Nilson turned her talents towards her own history with ‘My Life on the Prairie.’ She grew up on a farm near Stratton, Nebraska, in the 1930s and experienced a one-room school house, drought, dust storms, the great Republican River Flood of 1935, and, of course, the deprivations of the Great Depression.

Inspired to write by a persistent friend who wanted to know about her days as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, Nilson decided as she approached her 90th birthday that it was time to record those memories. At the age of 18 she was in charge of sixth graders. She says, “I never had any problems. I went in assuming they would mind me and they did.”

If you love history, education, and the prairie this is the book for you!
