Susan's Thursday morning note January 27, 2011
Perseverance Quotes
Hi! I tried for “Good morning,” but we’re now hitting “Good afternoon!” I’m getting a kick out of my note to you this morning because it’s on perseverance, but I can’t seem to persevere & get this done! (grin) I loved what I read, though, and determined to get the words into your mind this week, too!
This is a quote by an Oriental conqueror Tamerlane during an escape from enemies (in the 1300's!).
Observe the ant. I once was forced to take shelter from my enemies in a dilapidated building, where I sat alone for many hours. Wishing to divert my mind from my hopeless situation, I fixed my eyes on an ant carrying a kernel of corn larger than itself up a high wall. I counted its attempts to accomplish this feat. The corn fell sixty-nine times to the ground, but the insect persevered. The seventieth time it reached the top. The ant's accomplishment gave me courage for the moment, and I never forgot the lesson.
Initiative defined, “the power or ability to begin or follow through on a plan or task.”

If you don't make dust, you eat dust. Motto of Jack MacAllister
Most people spend more time planning their grocery shopping than designing their future. The basic difference between people who live their dreams and those who only dream about how they would live, are the accuracy of their plans, their ability to generate new ideas, and their ability to take action. Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Mark Twain
The secret to getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one. Mark Twain

If I neglect practicing one day, I notice; two days, my friends notice; three days, the public notices. Arthur Rubinstein, pianist.
Have a great week – the end of January – we persevered! We WILL make it!! I love Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote above…every new day brings new thoughts, new strength. I’m adding that to my refrigerator quotes helping me to remember to continue to look forward, to have new thoughts, new strength will come. Our choice is how we spend our moments. With which authors? With which friends? With which thoughts? Our choice. We have the chance to write our epitaph tonight for the next few hours of today. Our gifts. Will we make these hours count? Regardless of our circumstances? All a new day. Every hour is a new chance to have new thoughts, new strength. We must keep these leaders in our minds – their goals, their accomplishments, their failures, their thoughts. Learn from those that chose to live their lives with meaning.
Are we going to take the time today to look into other’s eyes? To give them a look that shows peace of mind. To take the time to listen to our thoughts, to analyze our own hopes and goals? To realize some goals fit with our life now and some must be set aside for a different chapter in our life? Will we spend more time on our grocery lists than on thinking out our future? We must realize the truth that there is constant peace and hope if we look up to the heavens, where our help constantly comes from. Let’s go – make our epitaph tonight worth writing on the rest of our moments today that we are soon to lose. REGARDLESS of our circumstances. Mental choices. We are here for a purpose. Let’s live until our last breath pleasing our creator. Thank you so much for letting me enter your Thursday again! Have a great rest of the week! I hope I’m in the store when you come by, but if I’m not – know how much your coming in means to me! Susan
