Susan's Thursday morning note April 19, 2012
Resolutions. Love of Words.  Inspiring Quotes

Good morning!  Springtime.  Glances to the heavens for cloud analysis.  Storms.  Calm.  Wind.  Constant changes.  Nebraska.  Not necessarily my favorite place for springtime storms, but calm Thursday mornings…I’ll take.  Birds.  Tulips.  Stillness.  Cats.  Books.  Piles.  Thoughts.  Dreams.  Ideas.  Life.  Coffee (with extra filler).  Today.  One gift out of thousands.

I was handed this quote on Monday in the store by one of you helping me find words worthy of Thursday mornings.  I have since found these four resolution are four out of 70 written by Jonathan Edwards April 17,  1723.  Exactly this week centuries ago.  For a link to his resolutions by topic follow this link:  Jonathan Edwards’ Resolutions:
I resolve, to live with all my might
    while I do live.

I resolve never to lose one moment of
time, to improve it in the most profitable way I possibly can.

I resolve, never to do anything
    out of revenge.

I resolve never to do anything which I
should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life.  Robert Edwards
It has been easy to be uplifted by thoughts of others this week while in the store, for wooden hangings have arrived with uplifting thoughts, songs, messages for our walls.  They are shaped as luggage tags, or over sized wooden bookmarks with stands.  They also include frames and wall strips with clips for pictures.  Below are some of the thoughts imprinted on the gifts.  I truly believe you’ll be lifted reading through them, as I am walking past them.

In our home please don’t worry about the “proper” way of doing things.  While we’re together your way is our way.  If you want to laugh…laugh out loud.  If you want to open up…your opinion is always welcome.  Feel free to be yourself because there’s a place for you at our table.

Love who you are.  Trust your heart.  Filter what others tell you.  Be extravagant with kindness.  Allow time for silliness.  Collect good decisions.  Choose your own adventure.  Get your glow on.  You make the future brighter.

If I had lipstick on my teeth, you’d tell me.  In a moment of panic, you’d calm me.  If you heard a little gossip, you’d defend me.  If another hack job haircut, you’d comfort me.  Wasn’t quite myself, you’d forgive me.  Had crazy onion breath, you’d warn me.  Misplaced my smile, you’d search with me.  If I forgot my song, you’d sing it to me.

You’re total proof God wants me happy.

Doing nothing with you is totally funner than doing something with anyone else.

When people tell you to use your head, just make sure to check in with your heart.

We have the choice to surround ourselves with words that inspire, challenge, encourage, understand.  Words.  The power of a few short words.   The Latin word for encourage is firmo.  To make firm.  Encourage.  firmo means to strengthen, to make firm, to put into the heart.  Words.  How can anyone not find strength in the words they know are behind covers on shelves in living rooms, next to beds, on tables, on floors.  Words.  Our gift in this life.  I’m going right now to add that to my list of 1000 on the refrigerator.  1000 gifts.  Words just made #90 line!  Let’s enter today.  The angel of dawn has given us this gift.  The moments before us are not a mystery.  God is there.  They are before us to enter with strength, courage, faith, hope, joy, peace.  Let us never forget, The peace that passes the understanding of all will never pass away.  Our promise.  A glance upward to the heavens.  A drop mentally to our knees. Peace.  Thank you for letting me enter your Thursday and for coming into our store.  If you only knew how much you matter to having this little shop.  Have a great rest of the week!  Let’s go make the moments given today that we will never get back worthy of their gift.  Make the moments of our day worthy of imprinting in stone.  Susan
